Enjoying green training and making hotels greener: A daily investigation of hotel green training on employee green behavior
The overconsumption of resources and increased carbon footprints have exerted considerable environmental pressure on the hotel industry. In response, an increasing number of hotels begun to adopt green training to foster employee green behavior, thereby achieving sustainable development. The present study adopted a daily diary approach to investigate how and when hotel green training drives hotel employee green behavior. Through the collection of data from 72 employees at 4–5 star hotels over 10 consecutive workdays, we found that daily hotel green training indirectly positively influenced next-day hotel employee in-role and extra-role green behavior via daily hotel employee green self-efficacy. These predicted effects of daily hotel green training depended upon the level of ethical leadership, showing that such effects were stronger when ethical leadership was higher, as opposed to lower. These findings offer valuable practical insights into how the hotel industry can leverage green training to effectively promote green sustainable development.
