Research progress on the impact of intravenous remifentanil used for labor analgesia on parturient women and infants
Aim
Remifentanil's safety in labor analgesia is as yet unknown, despite its special pharmacological characteristics, which include a strong analgesic impact, quick onset, and brief duration of action. This paper aims to offer a thorough analysis of the effects on pregnant women and infants of intravenous remifentanil used for labor analgesia.
Methods
Based on the literature, the study divides the maternal system into many systems and discusses the effects of remifentanil on each. In contrast to the use of remifentanil during a general anesthesia cesarean delivery, we show the effects of an intravenous remifentanil analgesia pump on infants. Instead of making broad generalizations, we describe how different analgesic pump modes may influence maternal pain control.
Results
Remifentanil's favorable benefits on the mother are mostly focused on pain control and the labor process, whereas its negative effects are primarily focused on the influence on breathing and sedation levels. Currently, it is widely regarded to have no substantial effect on the cardiovascular system. It is widely regarded as safe for infants, and current study focuses on its short-term effects on them. Of course, the setting of the analgesic pump plays a vital part in the whole process.
Conclusions
As an alternative to labor analgesia, remifentanil can be used. However, to prevent its harmful effects on expectant mothers and newborns, we advise adopting some safety measures.
