Development and validation of a tool to assess the knowledge, awareness, and practice toward the screening of prostate cancer among adult men.
Background: Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men. This study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice of men toward prostate cancer screening.
Materials and method: A cross-sectional study was conducted over 15 months over three phases. Phase I recruited 15 participants through face-to-face interviews using a purposive sampling approach. Phase II involved the development of a questionnaire with the assistance of a panel of radiology and oncology experts. The questionnaire was validated for reliability using intraclass correlation, inter-rater reliability via Cohen's kappa, and internal consistency using Cronbach's alpha in Phase III. A convenience sampling method was used to select 60 study participants.
Result: The content validity and internal consistency reliability of the final tool were found to be reliable with a Cronbach's alpha score of 0.77 with more than 90% agreement.
Conclusion: This tool will aid in identifying areas of knowledge gap and raise public awareness of the importance of preventing and detecting prostate cancer.
