Strengthening fisheries governance in the Caribbean through transshipment regulations to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing: The intersection of Caribbean regional fishery bodies and global standards
Addressing illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing necessitates a broader examination of factors which sustain this fisheries management problem. One such factor is unregulated transshipment, which has been linked to the exacerbation of IUU fishing. The Food and Agriculture Organization responds to this connection with the development of Voluntary Guidelines for Transshipment to mitigate IUU fishing. Given this development, this research discusses the connection between IUU fishing, with special emphasis on illegal fishing, and transshipment, along with the regional implementation of the FAO Voluntary Guidelines for Transshipment in the Caribbean.
