Adsorption of porphyrins on bismuth – Ionic liquid interface: Model adsorbates to study organic/ionic liquid hybrid systems
Studying organic/ionic liquid hybrid systems is a stepping stone towards designing increasingly complex interfaces for a wide range of applications: photovoltaics, photocatalysis, CO2 reduction, and hydrogen evolution reactions. A good understanding of organic adlayer formation processes from ionic liquids requires a reliable and systematic experimental and theoretical approach. Here, we employ a combination of electrochemical methods together with a controlled experimental setup to characterise in detail the adsorption and adlayer formation processes of tetraphenylporphyrin from ionic liquids on Bi(111) surface. The investigation of these complex systems leads us to conclude that the adlayer formation highly depends on the ionic liquid molecular structure and properties.

Electrochimica Acta is an international journal. It is intended for the publication of both original work and reviews in the field of electrochemistry. Electrochemistry should be interpreted to mean any of the research fields covered by the Divisions of the International Society of Electrochemistry listed below, as well as emerging scientific domains covered by ISE New Topics Committee.
