Marisa Scheinfeld's Art of Adventure

Marisa Scheinfeld's 2016 book, The Borscht Belt: Revisiting the Remains of America's Jewish Vacationland, is a visual communication package that offers a short history of the region's role in Jewish tourism and her photographs of the remaining hotels. This research examines how Scheinfeld created a book of remembrance while being optimistic in the regeneration of New York's Catskills. The Borscht Belt is told through an interpretation of a purposive sample of photographs that demonstrate Scheinfeld's photographic style and how the photographs are connected through their placement in the book.
