Psychometric evaluation of the Persian version of the balanced index of psychological mindedness in a university student sample
The Balanced Index of Psychological Mindedness (BIPM) is a concise 14-item self-report instrument designed to assess psychological mindedness, comprising two subscales: Interest and Insight. While the BIPM is widely used, research on its psychometric properties in Middle Eastern cultures remains limited. To address this gap, the current study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the BIPM in a sample of 606 university students (ages 18 to 54 years; M = 25.24, SD = 6.83; 39.44 % male) from universities in Iran. Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the two-factor structure of the BIPM, with both the Interest and Insight subscales demonstrating acceptable internal consistency. Additionally, the BIPM scores exhibited expected correlations with relevant external variables, providing support for both convergent and discriminant validity. Overall, these findings suggest that the Persian BIPM is a reliable and valid tool for measuring psychological mindedness, contributing to the growing body of research in this area.
