Recent Advances and Perspectives of Metabolomics-Based Investigations in Coronary Heart Disease.

Purpose of review: Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a major global threat to human health. This review summarizes the latest progress of metabolomics in CHD research, and provides insights into the pathogenesis and identify dependable biomarkers of CHD.

Recent findings: This review has summarized 303 metabolic indicators related to CHD, with a focus on 53 biomarkers, and highlighted the top 10 biomarkers with significant clinical value. The biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids, amino acids, and aminoacyl-tRNA, as well as amino acid metabolism, are linked to CHD pathogenesis. Amino acids and lipids play essential roles in understanding the onset and progression of CHD. This review provides a new perspective on enhancing our understanding of CHD pathogenesis and developing effective treatment interventions.

The aim of this journal is to systematically provide expert views on current basic science and clinical advances in the field of atherosclerosis and highlight the most important developments likely to transform the field of cardiovascular prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. We accomplish this aim by appointing major authorities to serve as Section Editors who select leading experts from around the world to provide definitive reviews on key topics and papers published in the past year. We also provide supplementary reviews and commentaries from well-known figures in the field. An Editorial Board of internationally diverse members suggests topics of special interest to their country/region and ensures that topics are current and include emerging research.
