Construction of porphyrin-based conjugated microporous polymer through quaternization for efficient photodegradation of tetracycline and bisphenol A†

Developing simple, cost-effective, and high-yield functionalized conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs) for the removal of emerging contaminants from water is an urgent research topic. This study employed a Suzuki coupling reaction to construct CMPs with an electron donor–acceptor structure with porphyrin and benzothiadiazole moieties, achieving dual functionality through post-modification strategies. Under visible light irradiation for 40 min, Por-BT-1 demonstrated an 84% removal efficiency (η) for tetracycline, meanwhile, Por-BT-2 achieved η = 98% for bisphenol A within 30 min. Additionally, factors such as pH, catalyst dosage, inorganic anions, and water sources were investigated to validate their applicability in practical water treatment scenarios. This research presented a simple approach for the construction of porphyrin-based CMPs, which are promising in the photodegradation of emerging contaminants and environmental remediation.
