Effect of Metabolites of Vaginal Lactobacilli on Neutrophils Function.
We studied the effect of metabolites produced by lactobacilli on the metabolic and killing activities of neutrophil. Treatment with lactic acid at a concentration of 5.6 mM increased dehydrogenase activity and killing activity of neutrophils and slightly decreased the mitochondrial potential in cells; at concentrations of 11.1 and 22.2 mM, lactate decreased dehydrogenase activity, which was accompanied by a decrease in the mitochondrial potential in cells; at a concentration of 11.1 mM, lactate decreased killing activity of neutrophils. Hydrogen peroxide increased the dehydrogenase and killing activities at concentrations of 0.59 and 2.36 mM and decreased these parameters at a concentration of 1.18 mM; these changes were accompanied by a decrease in the number of cells with high mitochondrial potential. It is assumed that the ability of vaginal lactobacilli to modulate neutrophil activity has important evolutionary significance and allows regulating the number of opportunistic microorganisms.
期刊介绍:
Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine presents original peer reviewed research papers and brief reports on priority new research results in physiology, biochemistry, biophysics, pharmacology, immunology, microbiology, genetics, oncology, etc. Novel trends in science are covered in new sections of the journal - Biogerontology and Human Ecology - that first appeared in 2005.
World scientific interest in stem cells prompted inclusion into Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine a quarterly scientific journal Cell Technologies in Biology and Medicine (a new Russian Academy of Medical Sciences publication since 2005). It publishes only original papers from the leading research institutions on molecular biology of stem and progenitor cells, stem cell as the basis of gene therapy, molecular language of cell-to-cell communication, cytokines, chemokines, growth and other factors, pilot projects on clinical use of stem and progenitor cells.
The Russian Volume Year is published in English from April.
