This myokine originates from the cleavage of a protein, FNDC5, and its synthesis and secretion are stimulated in response to skeletal muscle contraction. Recently, our group demonstrated that high-intensity interval training (HIIT) improved follicular development in Wistar rats, possibly through increased mRNA expression for the irisin precursor, the FNDC5 gene.
