[Predictors and Frequency of Coercive Measures in Adult Psychiatry: A Four-Year Retrospective Analysis].
Examine sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of individuals hospitalized under involuntary admission (FU) experiencing coercive measures (FM).Retrospective analysis of anonymized routine data from 14.856 inpatient cases in adult psychiatry from a larger Swiss canton. The study included sociodemographic and clinical characteristics.Over the four-year observation period, 29.9% of the 14'856 inpatient admissions occurred under FU, predominantly affecting older adults, individuals with lower education, and those from socially disadvantaged backgrounds. Organic mental disorders and schizophrenia exhibited the highest FU rates. Additional FM, such as seclusion, were used in 38.3% of FU cases. The FU rate increased significantly over the observation period, reaching 33% by 2023.FU and FM disproportionately affect individuals with severe mental illness, high symptom burden, distinct sociodemographic risk factors.
