Empowering financially responsible students: A systematic literature review on the role of lecturers and sustainable pedagogies in financial literacy education
As sustainable economic practices gain global attention, the role of financial literacy in fostering responsible consumption and sustainable development has become increasingly significant. This study explores the impact of lecturers on enhancing students' financial literacy and their ability to make informed, ethical financial decisions. By integrating concepts such as sustainable finance, ethical investment, and the environmental impact of consumption, the study underscores the importance of education in promoting long-term financial stability and responsible behaviors. Utilizing Human Capital Theory, the Theory of Planned Behavior, and Self-Determination Theory as theoretical lenses, the research employs a systematic literature review (SLR), coding, and thematic analysis to identify effective teaching models and propose a comprehensive framework for responsible financial education. This framework aligns with cleaner production and sustainable development goals, offering actionable insights for integrating sustainability principles into investment education. The findings highlight how lecturers can influence student outcomes by embedding ethical and environmental considerations into financial education, fostering a culture of responsible consumption and sustainable financial practices.
