Concerns were raised by a third party regarding image overlap in the histology panels of Figure 2. This was confirmed by the publisher's investigation and acknowledged by the authors as an error in figure preparation. Investigators also found evidence of duplication of numerous western blot bands in Figures 5, 6, and 7. The authors were unable to provide sufficient original data for these experiments, and they were unable to provide satisfactory explanations for the concerns raised. The retraction has been agreed by the parties because of concerns that the images were manipulated, affecting the interpretation of the data and results presented.
