[Hungarian adaptation of the Female Sexual Distress Scale - Desire/Arousal/Orgasm questionnaire among patients undergoing hysteroscopy].
Introduction: Female sexual distress is a negative emotional state usually accompanying sexual dysfunctions. However, it also can occur independently of dysfunctions, thus, it is important to distinguish between the two. Objective: Currently, no measuring instrument exists in Hungarian to identify female sexual distress. Our goal was to adapt the Female Sexual Distress Scale – Desire/Arousal/Orgasm questionnaire which has been widely used in international research. Method: The translation was performed according to the general rules of the validation process. The Hungarian questionnaire was completed by 152 women undergoing outpatient hysteroscopy, followed by other questionnaires measuring anxiety or distress. Results: The internal consistency of the Hungarian Female Sexual Distress Scale – Desire/Arousal/Orgasm questionnaire proved to be very high, with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.95. A positive correlation was shown with the other two questionnaires: higher sexual distress was associated with stronger state anxiety and higher levels of perceived stress. Discussion: Through our research, a questionnaire measuring female sexual distress was created and made available in Hungarian. Conclusion: The questionnaire may be suitable for assessing the prevalence of sexual distress in general population and for determining indication for psychotherapy, but further studies are needed.
