Applied post-stratification weighting based on the population figures published by the National Bureau of Statistics for 2000 and 2010, to analyze the changes in waist circumference distribution among Chinese residents over the past thirteen years.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>A total of 445 309 subjects were included in this study. Between 2002 and 2015, there was a gradual increase in waist circumference among adults in China. The mean waist circumference increased from 77.4 cm to 82.1 cm, with the mean for males rising from 79.2 cm to 84.4 cm and for females from 75.4 cm to 79.7 cm. The mean waist circumference for urban residents increased from 79.2 cm to 82.4 cm, while for rural residents, it increased from 76.2 cm to 81.6 cm. The growth rate was higher for males than for females and greater in rural areas compared to urban areas. Meanwhile, the urban-rural gap was gradually narrowing.
