Among its complications, sepsis frequently causes acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), which has a high incidence and mortality rate, particularly in intensive care units (ICUs). Currently, the management of sepsis-induced ARDS is largely limited to supportive care, as no specific pharmacological treatments are available. The progression of sepsis to ARDS is driven by severe inflammation and cytokine storms, highlighting the importance of anti-inflammatory therapies as a primary treatment focus. We summarize conventional drugs and emerging treatments targeting excessive inflammatory responses in sepsis-associated ARDS, reviewing progress in basic research and clinical trials.
