Indeed, adipose tissue dysfunction in obesity fosters a state of chronic low-grade inflammation, which may contribute to the so-called accelerator hypothesis, in which circulating self-autoreactive T cells can easily lose their regulatory mechanisms, resulting in self-tissue damage and autoinflammation.
