This study presents a Mn(OAc)3-promoted radical cyclization of vinyl isocyanides to efficiently synthesize 1-functionalized isoquinolines. Using the Mn(OAc)3-K2S2O5-HFIP system, 13 isoquinoline-1-sulfonates were prepared in good yields under mild conditions. These sulfonates were further converted into 1-chloro, 1-methoxy, 1-phenoxy, and 1-amino isoquinolines, demonstrating their potential as versatile intermediates.
