Towards waste management 5.0: A nexus between circular economy and industry 5.0 dimensions
Due to the significant impact of the recently recently-introduced industrial revolution; i.e., Industry 5.0 (I5.0) in different fields, this work aims to incorporate its elements into Waste Management (WM) by integrating the WM, Circular Economy (CE), and I5.0 dimensions called Waste Management 5.0 (WM5.0). For this purpose, the current study proposes a novel and efficient decision-making framework based on the Lexicographic Fuzzy Best-Worst Method (LFBWM) and fuzzy Vlse Kriterijumsk Optimizacija Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR) approach to evaluate the main strategies to shift from a traditional Waste Management System (WMS) towards an I5.0-based one. The achieved results show that “5R” (Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle), “Reliability”, “Operational Feasibility”, “Safety”, “Investment Costs”, and “Flexibility” are determined as the most significant indicators. Furthermore, the findings reveal that “Utilizing advanced technologies in waste collection systems” and “using smart systems to treat the collected waste” are the best strategies.
