Progress in hotel amenities from guests’ perspectives: A knowledge map and research agenda
This study comprehensively evaluates the progress in hotel amenity research from guests’ perspectives by analyzing 315 articles through automatic content analysis and a systematic quantitative review. A knowledge map was constructed to provide an overview of research foci and potential gaps. The knowledge map presents the quantity of studies on four categories of hotel amenities across twenty-six variables of guest perceptions and behavioral outcomes, while different guest segments and functional attributes of amenities are also considered. Findings reveal a surge in research on technology, green, and safety amenities, while highlighting gaps in exploring under-researched guest perspective and segments like senior guests and guests with disability. We propose a future research agenda based on the analysis. The review advances the field by assessing current status of knowledge, identifying critical research gaps, and providing a strategic roadmap for future research.
