Climate disasters and mental health: directions for research, practice, and policy
Climate change has increased the frequency, severity, and lethality of climate disasters, including hurricanes, wildfires, and floods, with these trends expected to escalate.1 Resultingly, individuals and communities will be at increased risk of exposure to multiple disasters over time. Since robust research has correlated disaster exposure with mental ill health,2, 3 understanding how successive disasters affect population mental health is crucial.
