Total synthesis of (±)-sumatranin C

Total synthesis of (±)-sumatranin C
The first total synthesis of (±)-sumatranin C was accomplished. The synthesis features an intermolecular aldol reaction to connect two parts of the molecule and an acid-induced acetal cyclization to form the tricyclic framework. The present strategy would be applicable to synthesize other related natural products.
