BILATERAL SEQUENTIAL INFLAMMATORY FULL-THICKNESS MACULAR HOLES IN BIRDSHOT CHORIORETINOPATHY.
Purpose: To report a novel case of bilateral sequential full-thickness macular holes in a patient with birdshot chorioretinopathy (BSCR).
Methods: Case report.
Results: A 57-year-old woman with BSCR undergoing systemic anti-inflammatory treatment developed progressive bilateral macular atrophy and reduced visual acuity. Further progression resulted in the development of a full-thickness macular hole (FTMH) in her left eye, which was successfully treated with vitrectomy, internal limiting membrane peeling using the inverted flap technique, and C3F8 gas injection. Unfortunately, she soon developed a FTMH in her right eye, which was also successfully repaired by vitrectomy.
Conclusion: Chronic posterior uveitis in BSCR can result in macular atrophy, which in our patient progressed to bilateral FTMH formation. This complication of BSCR has never been reported before.
