The Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupational Performance approach in childhood-onset disabilities

This review looks at the Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupational Performance (CO-OP) approach, a program that helps children and young people get better at doing the things they want to do and are important to them. Created in 2001, CO-OP helps children and young people figure out where things are going wrong with tasks, teaches them how to develop strategies to solve these problems, and helps them use these skills in other situations.

Research shows that CO-OP has been used with children who have different conditions, such as neurodevelopmental disorders, cerebral palsy, and movement difficulties, to address a variety of goals important to them. The program has been studied through different types of research, from small case studies to larger, more rigorous trials. Common tools to measure progress include the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure and the Performance Quality Rating Scale.
