A systematic literature review of mobile learning trends in biology education over ten years
Mobile learning has emerged as a technological tool in various fields, including biology education. Mobile learning has emerged as a valuable approach to visualizing biological concepts or conducting practical activities. However, there is a dearth of literature studies related to the application of mobile learning in biology education. Thus, this literature review was conducted to present a mapping of empirical findings from the literature on the use of mobile learning in biology learning from 2013 to 2024. The literature review (SLR) study used the PRISMA method to review and select articles from the Scopus database. A total of 66 out of 1315 articles were selected and reviewed. Systematic analysis of the selected articles revealed a growing trend of mobile learning usage over time and researchers from different countries with various research methods that continue to expand the future direction of mobile learning research. This SLR reveals a mapping of mobile learning in four main aspects that can be an insight for educators regarding the type of technology used, content taught, instructional design, and learning outcome. Considering that technology strongly supports learning in biology education, the mobile learning trend will increase to achieve more effective and efficient learning in the coming years.
