Case report of an extensive fibrous dysplasia and maxillofacial prosthetic rehabilitation
Fibrous dysplasia is a lesion that affects the maxillofacial region and comprises a group of developmental dysplastic lesions characterized with the bone replacement by cellular fibrous tissue interspersed with irregular bony trabeculae and can cause severe deformity and facial asymmetry. Melanoderma patient, female, 32 years old reported that she had been in follow-up for 17 years old until the lesion growth became very significant at 30 years old and required partial maxillectomy. Clinically, the lesion appeared as an expandable mass at the right maxilla, with normal mucosal color and facial asymmetry. The computed tomography showed a displaced sinus floor and a hyperdense region with no defined limits. The patient was rehabilitated with an immediate, temporary, and restorative closed prosthesis over a 12-month rehabilitation treatment.

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology and Oral Radiology is required reading for anyone in the fields of oral surgery, oral medicine, oral pathology, oral radiology or advanced general practice dentistry. It is the only major dental journal that provides a practical and complete overview of the medical and surgical techniques of dental practice in four areas. Topics covered include such current issues as dental implants, treatment of HIV-infected patients, and evaluation and treatment of TMJ disorders. The official publication for nine societies, the Journal is recommended for initial purchase in the Brandon Hill study, Selected List of Books and Journals for the Small Medical Library.
