Exploring new quality productive forces in ocean governance: Insights from China's practices and strategic directions
As global pressures from resource depletion and environmental degradation intensify, there is an urgent need to explore innovative strategies for sustainable ocean governance. Recognizing these challenges, the "Promoting High-Quality Ocean Development with New Quality Productive Forces" seminar was convened in March 2024 by the Academy of Ocean of China in Qingdao. This pivotal conference brought together an interdisciplinary group of leading experts from academia, government, and industry to delve into how new quality productive forces can be harnessed to catalyze sustainable ocean governance. The seminar focused on the potential of technological innovations to enhance marine resource efficiency, advance marine spatial governance, and catalyze the development of new marine energy solutions. Addressing these critical issues, the seminar aimed to contribute substantially to the discourse on sustainable ocean governance, providing strategic policy recommendations. The insights and collaborative efforts initiated here are expected to significantly shape the trajectory of global marine policies, underscoring the importance of innovative governance frameworks that promote resilience and sustainable development.
