Video-driven active learning strategies to enhance simulation preparation

Background

There is a continued call for research to determine the most effective methods, best timing, and impact of active teaching strategies on nursing student simulation preparation.

Method

A quantitative cross-sectional design with thematic analysis of students open-ended responses was used.

Findings

The research findings indicate the positive impact of video-based interventions and role expectation guidelines on student engagement, anxiety, and preparation for simulation.

Discussion

The use of generative-AI patient backstory videos, simulation role guidelines, and expert modeling videos are examples of novel active learning approaches to promote engagement and learning and reduce anxiety surrounding simulation preparation.
