Protocolo de diagnóstico y tratamiento del hepatocarcinoma

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most frequent primary neoplasm of the liver. It occurs in most cases in patients with liver cirrhosis. Although there has been significant progress in the development of new therapies for HCC in recent years, it continues to be a significant cause of mortality in these patients. Therefore, it is vitally important to comply with screening programs, with biannual ultrasound examination, in an attempt to make the earliest possible diagnosis. Given the peculiarity of this tumor, which in most cases is located on a diseased liver with liver cirrhosis, prognostic classification systems must be used that take into account not only tumor extension but also the situation of the liver disease, such as the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer classification system.
