It is quite possible that, on the toenails, both are related as both clinically portray changes in nail growth in a setting of ongoing microtrauma.</p><p><strong>Case presentation: </strong>A 2-year-old girl presented with a left great toenail change compatible with chronic retronychia. The likely culprit was a lateral deviation of the distal phalanx.
