Liposome-encapsulated hydrophobic drugs have low and unstable drug loading rates. Drug-in-CD-in-liposome (DCL), which encapsulate cyclodextrin inclusion complexes into liposomes, combine the advantages of both delivery systems, can effectively avoid the leakage and rapid release of lipophilic drugs in the lipid bilayer, and help to maintain the integrity of liposomes.
