Notable for its advanced regenerative abilities and menstrual cycle, acomys serves as a unique model for studying diverse aspects of physiology and neuroscience, including developmental and regenerative neuroscience. Despite its significance, only sporadic and unsystematic data on the structure and development of the acomys brain are available. Therefore, the aim of this study was to systematically organize the existing information on the structure and development of the acomys brain and to compare it with that of commonly studied altricial rodent species (rats, mice, hamsters, and gerbils). This review is organized into several sections, focusing on general aspects of brain development, such as myelination and brain growth.
