First, we present a comprehensive review of the studies utilising transcriptomics in invasion biology. Second, we collate the evidence for and against the role of a range of regulatory processes in contributing to invasive species plasticity. Studies may employ neutral markers for inference about ecological and evolutionary processes or examine ecologically important genes and their products directly.
