The cancerous plasma cells produce monoclonal immunoglobulins in the bone marrow. The extent of proliferation in the malignant state can manifest in many complications including osteopenia, osteolytic lesions, pathologic fractures, hypercalcemia, anemia, and kidney dysfunction. As is the case with the treatment of other malignancies, the research relating to the management of MM is dynamic and evolving.
