Review of noise and vibration reduction technologies in marine machinery: Operational insights and engineering experience
The reduction of vibrations and noise on ships is essential for securing the health and comfort of crew members, passengers, and land residents, the well-being of marine life, and the safe use of machinery. This review aims to collate individual studies on vibration and noise reduction in the field of marine engineering and gain an overall understanding of them. Accordingly, vibration and noise reduction technologies have been introduced for the main marine machinery, such as two-stroke diesel engines, shafting systems, four-stroke diesel generators, tunnel thrusters, and auxiliary marine machinery, such as ventilation and air conditioning systems, air compressors, oil purifiers, and motors.
