New biomarkers, such as ceramides, may help in the diagnosis and treatment of this disease. This study included 73 ACE patients for whom the SARS-CoV-2 infection was verified. Two subgroups were formed: the favorable outcome subgroup and the fatal outcome subgroup. Plasma samples were collected from all patients at the time of admission for a metabolomic analysis. The analysis of metabolites revealed that the ceramide levels were significantly lower in the fatal outcome subgroup than in the survivor subgroup.
