Análisis de la profesión periodística: el rol de la mujer en la televisión deportiva actual
Introduction: 20th-century sports journalism was dominated by men, with little female representation in both sports practice and media coverage. Since the 1980s and 1990s, television in Spain began to open the way for women, although the sports field remained a challenge. In recent decades, there has been a significant increase in women in prominent roles within television networks, reflecting greater inclusion. Methodology: The study combines qualitative interviews with quantitative analysis of official data. Sports journalists from media outlets such as Movistar+, RTVE, Mediapro, and Eurosport were interviewed. Data on female presence in sports television during 2022 and 2023, provided by the Madrid Press Association and the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities, was also analyzed. Results: The results show an improvement in gender parity in sports television, with women in visible and leadership roles on networks like RTVE, La Sexta, and Antena 3 TV. However, disparities persist in executive positions and sports event narration. Female athletes receive more media coverage when achieving notable successes. Discussion and Conclusions: Despite advances, gender equality in sports journalism faces obstacles. Female journalists must constantly prove their worth. Stereotypes and discrimination persist, especially in narration and management roles. The increasing visibility of women in sports journalism is a positive sign, but continuous effort is needed to achieve true gender equality.
