Repenser la lutte contre la malaria à Haïti : analyse et perspective

Les interventions en santé peuvent relever d’approches et de conceptions différentes en fonction du paradigme choisi. Les interventions visant l’élimination de la malaria peuvent ainsi prendre des orientations différentes. À Haïti, la malaria reste encore un problème de santé publique, malgré un siècle de lutte pour l’éradication de cette maladie. Le pays a connu pas moins de quatre programmes d’intervention qui tous ont adopté une vision matérialiste de la santé ; de fait toutes leurs actions se tournent autour du corps du sujet. Les déterminants sociaux de la malaria y sont négligés. Considérant l’échec répété de ces différents programmes, les auteurs de cet article proposent l’application d’une conception mixte de la santé, c’est-à-dire l’arrimage des visions matérialiste et anthropologique de la santé dans la lutte contre la malaria dans le contexte haïtien.

Health interventions may have different approaches and designs depending on the vision of health used. Interventions to eliminate malaria may have different orientations depending on the vision of health adopted. In Haiti, malaria is still a public health problem, despite a century of struggle to eliminate it. The country has had no less than four intervention programs aimed at eradicating the disease. All programs have adopted a materialistic vision of health, and in fact all their actions revolve around the body of the subject. The social determinants of malaria are neglected in the interventions. Considering the repeated failure of different programs, the authors of this article propose the application of a mixed vision of health, that is, the linkage of materialist and anthropological visions of health in the fight against malaria in the Haitian context.
