Through biomimetic semisynthesis and chemical degradation of compounds –, synthesis of phenylpropanoid-derived [2+2] dimers –, combined with extensive spectroscopic analysis, single-crystal X-ray crystallography, and microcrystal electron diffraction experiments, the structures with absolute configurations of – were unequivocally elucidated.
