The formation of these cryobanks involves different steps, including cryopreservation, with the optimization of all steps occurring in a species-specific manner. There is a diversity of studies on aquatic mammals; however, a low quantity compared to the number of studies on land mammals, with more than 80% of species still unexplored. This is mainly due to the difficulty of execution and asepsis in collecting skin from aquatic mammals and the <i>in vitro</i> culture, which seems to require more particularities for it to be successful.
