In this study, the authors investigated the harmful impact of podocyte-cleaved soluble retinoic acid receptor responder protein-1 on podocytes and proximal tubular cells and identified matrix metalloprotease 23 as the enzyme responsible for cleaving retinoic acid receptor responder protein-1.
