The process of fibrosis has common characteristics that can occur in various organs, such as the liver, kidney, lung, and skin. Currently, there is a paucity of effective treatments available for fibrosis. Therefore, it is crucial to identify new approaches to find potential therapeutic targets. Genetic studies have shown great promise in advancing the drug development process. Mer tyrosine kinase (MERTK) was recently identified as a crucial regulator of fibrosis that specifically controls the activity of transforming growth factor beta (TGFβ).
