Our findings aligned with the macroergonomic factors as presented in previous models, while highlighting the need to expand upon certain components to gain a more comprehensive representation of the patient work system as relevant to dyadic management. Examples of design efforts that should follow from these findings include expanding existing data sharing options to include information from the external environment and capitalising on the capabilities of artificial intelligence as a decision support system. Papers reporting the findings of research from cognate disciplines are also welcome, where these contribute to understanding equipment, tasks, jobs, systems and environments and the corresponding needs, abilities and limitations of people. All published research articles in this journal have undergone rigorous peer review, based on initial editor screening and anonymous refereeing by independent expert referees.
