At the same time, as important signaling molecules, it regulate a variety of cellular inflammatory responses and homeostatic proliferation through receptor-dependent and independent pathways. Short-chain fatty acids regulate the gut-liver axis and thereby directly act on the liver, participating in the pathogenesis and transformation of various liver diseases, including alcoholic liver disease, metabolic dysfunction-related liver disease, autoimmune liver disease, liver fibrosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. In addition, short-chain fatty acids can inhibit HBV DNA replication.
