Grounded in a psychological and phenomenological approach, this research aims to map out the holistic process a person undergoes in transformative tourism experiences by analysing some of the world's most transformational settings, namely, outer space, natural environments, and psychedelic journeys. The experiences of astronauts, econauts, and psychonauts are explored and synthesised into a multi-phasic transformative experience process model from initiation to integration - through the stages of the varying self.
