For the research, which is of a quantitative transversal nature, a questionnaire was elaborated, with indicative for classification of SM, through Google Forms. The survey was released on social networks, emails and chat apps, such as WhatsApp, between the months of October and November 2020. The results showed that 439 people agreed to answer the survey, 70% of whom were female and 30% male. Of this total, 45% were between 28 and 37 years old and 87% of the participants lived in the southeast region. It was identified that 7% of the participants had at least 3 of the 5 criteria for MS, 17% within 2 of the 5 and 12% had none of the 5 criteria. In this study, with regard to the prevalence of cases of MS in relation to sex, there was a higher occurrence in the male population. Finally, the relevance of each criterion according to sex and age reaffirms MS as being a clinical and epidemiological tool in the identification of individuals and population groups at risk for the development of cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes.
