The role of universities in spreading a culture of tolerance: an empirical study

Universities play a crucial role in promoting tolerance within societies. They offer a diverse learning environment that brings together students and professors from various cultures and backgrounds. This diversity enables students to learn how to effectively engage with different perspectives and cultures, thus fostering tolerance and mutual understanding. Moreover, universities actively promote humanitarian and social values that support peaceful coexistence and equality in society. This study aims to investigate the role of universities in fostering a culture of tolerance. Employing a descriptive approach and utilizing the social survey method, the study surveyed a random sample of 30 students from Philadelphia University. The findings revealed that the university contributes to the dissemination of tolerant values through extracurricular activities, community engagement, and academic coursework. Additionally, the study found that faculty members are committed to advancing social development through their roles at the university.
