The results of the study made it possible to establish the manifestations of the parameters of selection traits and their variability in the model population in the arid conditions of the Lower Volga region of the Russian Federation. The magnitude of the influence of factors on the manifestation of traits (genotype, growing conditions, interaction of factors) and their contribution to the overall variability has been established. Forms with high values of crop structure elements were identified: by the number of beans per plant, by the number of seeds per plant, by the mass of 1000 seeds, by seed yield (1,80-2,27 t/ha), by green mass yield (14,29 -21,77 t/ha). The parameters of the ideal type of grasspea variety adapted for cultivation in regions with arid climates are presented.
