This scientific article deals with the problem of determining the linguistic essence of evaluation. The main approach to identifying evaluative components of meaning at the moment is the semantic analysis of linguistic expressions. But with the development of online communication, the analysis of context has become relevant, since the pragmatic evaluative meaning is manifested indirectly, going beyond the semantic structure of the expression. This is especially important for the study of texts within the framework of linguistic expertise, where one of the most frequent objects is an Internet commentary. In this study, 827 publications containing evaluation were analyzed. The article points out predominantly lexical, predominantly syntactic, mixed, graphic means of expressing evaluation, and emphasizes the means of expressing evaluative meaning typical for Internet comments: case, punctuation marks, symbols, emoticons. The range of these means requires additional study due to the dynamism of their development and the breadth of their use
